YAS' GUIDE TO VERSAILLE

Versaille, France is the home to historic and incredibly well preserved Place of Versaille. Without going into a history lesson, this is the most impressive property I’ve ever been to. I’m sure you’ve seen pictures, or even learned about it in school, but it’s without a doubt a must visit place if you’re in the region.

Only a 45 minute train or Uber ride from Paris, Versaille spans an incredible 3 squared miles and was the home to Kings dating back to 1662. We stayed in Versaille for 2 nights after visiting Paris. Some blogs say this is a perfect day trip, but I would recommend AT LEAST 2 nights if not 3. It’s HUGE! It’ll take you one day just to walk through the main palace and one or two days to explore the grounds. Here are a few recommendations and pictures from our adventure.

WHERE TO STAY:

  • WALDORF ASTORIA is the most convenient hotel to stay in if you are visiting Versaille and in town for only a few days. It’s not only a beautiful hotel, but also has a Michelin star restaurant. There is a walking path that leads you directly to Versaille palace.

WHAT TO DO:

  • Go on a boat ride in the Grand Canal. So expansive and a lot of fun. Bring a picnic and take in the sun.

  • Rent a bike and cruise the grounds or ride around the canal. The best way to get around is on a bike given the Palace is so massive.

  • Versaille Palace - Get tickets ahead of time and tour the Palace of Versaille. Everything is huge and extravagant, but my favorite was the chandelier ballroom.

  • Tour Marie Antoinette’s Estate and the Queen’s Hamlet - These places are located in a different part of the property than the main Palace. It’s a whole other day of exploring.

  • Tour the Grand Trianon - Finished in 1687 for Louise XIV, this palace was built with pink marble and orderly gardens as an escape from the everyday life of the main palace.

  • Take a walk through the gorgeous gardens - Versaille is known for it’s beauty so don’t underestimate the time you’ll spend walking from place to place

Boat rides in Versaille is a dream.
